Player ratings: Celta Vigo 1 – 4 Real Madrid; La Liga 2022

Real Madrid traveled to Vigo for the second La Liga game of the season and the first game after Casemiro’s transfer to Manchester United. The two young French midfielders, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, started the match for the second consecutive weekend. Both were much improved compared to their show vs Almeria. The team put in a better squad overall, with their quality and physical levels far surpassing Celta in the second half. Goals from Benzema, Modric, Vinicius and Valverde condemned the match. Full rating of match players below:

Thibaut Courtois-6: Celta Vigo rarely tested the keeper, the Belgian made only 1 save. It was his division with his feet that came under more pressure. Some of Thibaut’s passing decisions on the ball were questionable and put his teammates in difficult situations.

Dani Carvajal-7: Despite the difference in height, a strong aerial duel with Paciencia managed to disallow a goal. Dest well with the rest of Galan and Oscar Rodriguez.

Eder Militao-7.5: Very aggressive when getting off to Aspas and Paciencia.

David Alaba-7: Managed an assist on the Modric goal. Also won the leading penalty after shooting the ball into Tapia’s hand. Was substituted in the 77th minute after receiving a yellow card for a tough challenge at Aspas.

Ferland Mendy-4: Slow to start the season with three underpowered games in a row: Frankfurt, Almeria and now Celta. Too many giveaways and a lack of understanding with Tchouameni.

Tchouameni-8: A solid match after all the drama and noise surrounding Casemiro’s transfer.

Eduardo Camavinga-7.5: After a difficult first fifteen minutes, Camavinga grew into the game. Used his body well to shield the ball and dodge pressure. Made multiple 2nd man runs from midfield to clear room for teammates and provide an outlet.

Luka Modric-9: A stunning goal, a dagger assist and all around awe-inspiring performance that provoked an ovation from the Balaidos crowd.

Fede Valverde—6: Finally opened his goalscoring account after hitting the woodwork countless times or shooting a high xG chance at the keeper. Hopefully the ketchup bottle will open and the goals will flow for the Uruguayan.

Vinicius Junior—8.5: Hugo Mallo will have nightmares tonight when he thinks of the Brazilian. Tormented the right-back all evening, forcing him to a team high of 4 fouls. Scored a brilliant goal by dribbling the keeper into an open net.

Karim Benzema-6: Another quiet night, but still managed to get onto the scoresheet via a well taken penalty.

Antonio Rudiger-7: Made a long-breaking run both with the ball with him and later in the final third to earn a penalty.

Luke Vazquez-6: Hard to notice, the team was in control while the right-back was on the field.

Eden Hazard—N/A: Last 10 minutes played with the team leading 4-1 and a penalty missed.

Dani Ceballos—N/A: Last 10 minutes played instead of Luka Modric in midfield.

Marco Asensio—N/A: Missed a late chance to score the fifth.
