Jay Glazer Says There Is No QB Controversy In Pittsburgh: ‘Mitch Trubisky, That’s The Guy’ – Steelers Depot

Fox Sports analyst and NFL insider Jay Glazer is generally pretty hooked when it comes to not just the league as a whole, but the Pittsburgh Steelers in general, thanks to his close relationship with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

So when he talks about the Steelers, it’s definitely worth listening to and following. On Wednesday, Glazer did just that, taking a selfie video of Chuck Noll Field at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. In the video, Glazer — who spent the past few days at Steelers training camp with Tomlin — stated that there isn’t really much competition or controversy at quarterback for the Steelers because, as he puts it, veteran Mitch Trubisky “is the man” for black. and gold.

“…People still think there could be a quarterback controversy here. There isn’t; it’s Mitch Trubisky. That’s the guy. He’s going to be the starter here. They really like Kenny Pickett,” Glazer said, according to video from his Twitter page. “This will be Mitch Trubisky’s team. When you talk to people here, they have so much faith in him, and I think that’s one of the things that, you know, Mitch has beaten up in his career. So now to have a guy where they fill his confidence, they definitely think they can win with Mitch Trubisky.

“And I think there are a lot of people who support Mitch Trubisky. This is Mitch’s team,” Glazer added. “He’s going to be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh this year…but they also have their future in Kenny Pickett.”

While nothing really surprising here from Glazer, it’s worth mentioning because when Glazer says it, it’s mostly a fact.

Despite the off-season talk around the Steelers about a three-way starting quarterback league between Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and Pickett, Trubisky is primed all the time as the starter, starting in OTAs, going through mini camp and now training camp where he is. consistently got the reruns of the first team.

Frankly, it would be fair to say that there is more competition for the backup quarterback job between Rudolph and Pickett than for the runway at Trubisky. He was signed as “the man” for a transition season from the Ben Roethlisberger era. He gets the chance to not only rebuild his career, but also win some matches and essentially audition for another team, as Pickett is clearly the intended future.

There’s still a lot of football to be played between now and the September 11 opener on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, and a lot could happen between now and then, but it’s starting to look more and more like Trubisky’s job. When Glazer says so, you can usually count on it.
