Ohio State Freshman Defensive End Kenyatta Jackson Loses Black Stripe

Make sure there are three Ohio state freshmen to lose their black stripes on Saturday.

After announcing that first-year Kyion Grayes and running back Dallan Hayden have “officially” become Buckeyes, Kenyatta Jackson joins the club’s top 100 defense for the Scarlet and Grey.

The four-star contender and No. 98 player in the 2022 class is the first member of Larry Johnson’s defense line to earn the honor since the beginning of fall camp, and the first freshman defensive lineman to do so since Caden Curry in April.

Jackson, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound pass rusher and native of Hollywood, Florida, is the third of the Buckeyes’ summer enrollees to have lost their black streak since joining the program in June. Kaleb Brown and Hayden were the first two.

Jackson is the fourth Buckeye overall to lose his black stripe on Saturday, as sophomore walk-on wideout Joop Mitchell also garnered the accolade.

With Mitchell and Jackson as the newest, the state of Ohio has now removed nine black stripes since the start of fall camp and 12 since the start of the new year. Jackson is the third freshman defenseman to lose his stripes this fall, following Jyaire Brown (August 9) and CJ Hicks (August 13).

Arizona State transfer linebacker Chip Trayanum was the first Buckeye defender, regardless of class, to lose his black streak this fall, and he did so on August 9.
