MultiVersus had a pretty fast launch when it finally got into open beta late last month, and the release may have been even better than previously thought.
According to the NPD Group, MultiVersus debuted as the best-selling video game in the United States for the month of July.
Since the NPD Group makes their rankings based on dollars made and not copies sold/downloaded, it also means that Warner Bros.’ new platform fighter. has received a significant boost from Founder’s Pack sales, which range from $40 USD to $100.
MultiVersus was also able to beat other new releases such as Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Digimon Survive, as well as Elden Ring and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which dominated the charts for the past few months.
In a console breakdown, the big WB crossover took the #1 spot on Xbox and reached #3 on PlayStation.

This was also all accomplished in just about 12 days of the month, as the early access beta version of MVS didn’t go live until July 19.
Interestingly, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues its historic rise in sales reaching #12 for July sales and #4 for Nintendo platforms.
MultiVersus isn’t the first time in recent memory that a new fighting game has topped the NPD charts just like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mortal Kombat 11 did too.
Given how both games performed after that, MVS will likely continue to be a huge success in the months ahead, but it’ll be fascinating to see how that plays out now that the game is available to everyone for free without having to buy a Founder’s Pack.
Almost immediately after the title first launched in early access, it broke the record for most simultaneously played fighting game on Steam, and broke that record again when its public beta hit, reaching over 144,000 concurrent users on PC. .
Since then, the game has reached at least 10 million downloads, and that number is probably even higher now.
MultiVersus is making one of the strongest starts we’ve ever seen in the genre, and now that the Season 1 update is available, WB and Player First Games will have to look to continue that momentum.
