Lamborghinic goes balls to the wall with his latest creation: the Urus Performante. It’s more powerful, lighter, and faster than the standard urus.
Unveiled at Quail at Monterey Car Week, the Performante adds 16 horsepower to its 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 for a total of 657 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. That’s 666 metric horsepower. The sign of the beast. God trembles.
The Performante also reduces the overall weight of the SUV by 104 pounds. These improvements reduce the 0-60 time to 3.3 seconds. It also has a top speed of 190 mph. Lamborghini says the Urus Peformante’s driving modes have been redesigned. They include a new Rally mode. It aims to improve the vehicle’s oversteer characteristics with anti-roll and damping systems to work with the revised suspension.
“The Urus Performante takes to the road as a lightweight, sophisticated athlete. Its muscular stance, distinctive design, V8 twin-turbo engine and lightweight sports exhaust make it the most exciting contender on any road, track and loose surface by sight, sound and experience. This is a super sports car driver’s SUV,” said Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer.
On the outside, the Performante has deeper cuts in the hood lines and lower front bumper. The hood also has an air outlet forged from carbon fiber. You can even get an optional carbon fiber roof – intended to evoke other Lamborghinis, such as the Hurican Performante and Super Trophy. The front bumper and splitter will also be made of carbon fiber. There are also aerodynamic changes throughout the SUV. A redesigned rear spoiler increases rear downforce by 38 percent over the standard car.
Chassis-wise, the vehicle has been lowered 20 mm. 22-inch wheels are standard and 23s are optional. The aero has increased the overall length of the vehicle by 25 mm.
Just because the company wanted to show up, the guys in Italy turned up a Peferomate Pikes Peak at the International Hill Climb. He went up the mountain in just 10:39.06. That’s 17 seconds faster than the previous SUV record, according to Lamborghini.
“The Urus Performante takes the superior performance and distinctive looks of Lamborghini’s groundbreaking Super SUV to the next level, retaining its luxurious versatility and delivering the most engaging driving experience not only on the road, but in any environment, characterized by an attractive design that sets new standards for driving dynamism in what is already a remarkable car,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, in a written statement.
All this performance will not come cheap. The Urus Performante 2023 starts in the US at $260,676 – not including shipping or gas guzzler tax. It is safe to assume that prices will rise well into the $300,000 range when all is said and done in terms of options. According to Lamborghini, deliveries are expected to begin at the end of this year.
