Apple extends Self Service Repair to Mac notebooks

Apple has announced that Self Service Repair will be available tomorrow for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks with the M1 chip family, with repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through the Apple Self Service Repair Store. Self Service Repair for iPhone launched earlier this year and will expand to other countries later this year, starting in Europe, and to additional Mac models.

Self Service Repair for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro offers over a dozen different types of repairs for each model, including the display, top case with battery, and trackpad, with more to come. Customers experienced in the complexities of repairing electronic devices can perform repairs on these Mac notebooks, with access to many of the same parts and tools available at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.

To initiate the Self Service Repair process, a customer first reads the repair manual for the product they want to repair by visiting support.apple.com/self-service-repair. Then they can go to the Apple Self Service Repair Store and order the necessary parts and tools.

Every genuine Apple part is designed and engineered for every product and undergoes extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety and reliability. Customers can return replaced parts to Apple for refurbishment and recycling, and in many cases receive credit for their purchase.

Specially designed to provide the best repairs for Apple products, Apple tools are designed to withstand the rigors of large-scale, professional repairs where safety and reliability are a top priority. Apple offers rental kits for $49 so that customers who don’t want to buy tools for a single repair can still have access to these professional repair tools. Customers can access the toolkit for a week and receive free shipping.

Self Service Repair is part of Apple’s efforts to further expand access to repairs. For the vast majority of customers who have no experience in repairing electronic devices, the safest and most reliable way to make a repair is to visit a professional repairer with certified technicians using genuine Apple parts.

In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to Apple genuine parts, tools and training, including more than 3,500 independent repair providers. A worldwide network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 active technicians. As a result, eight out of ten Apple customers are in the US within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider.
