On Thursday morning the Kansas City Chiefs performed their 17th (and final) full workout of 2022 training camp on their training ground at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (groin), defensive tackle Chris Jones (back), tight end Blake Bell (hip flexor) and tackle Lucas Niang (knee) all missed the last day of training camp. After missing practice on Wednesday, running back Jerick McKinnon (hamstring) and long snapper James Winchester (personal) were back on the field.
With training camp over, the Chiefs have Friday off. The second game of the preseason is scheduled for Saturday. It will be against the Washington Commanders at Arrowhead Stadium. Kick-off is at 3:00 PM (arrowhead time). Practices (then at the team’s practice facility at the Truman Sports Complex) will resume on Monday.
Arrowhead Pride Editor-in-Chief Pete Sweeney was one of the other Chiefs who covered reporters and television crews, watching everything that happened on the final day. Pete’s observations have already been published on Twitter.
now we share them here:
In a 10-10-10, the team has lighter training and goes through 10 offensive moves, 10 defensive moves, and 10 minutes of special teams. The attack of the first team is served by the defense of the second team and vice versa. So there is only so much you can take away from these looks.

One of the team’s new experienced wideouts had a very strong day.
In that first period (without JuJu), RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, WR Skyy Moore, WR Noah Gray, WR Justin Watson, RB Isiah Pacheco and TE Travis Kelce all saw targets. WR’s Corey Coleman and Daurice Fountain got into the mix in the second period.

Piet detailed hits (and near hits) in secondary.
Defensively, CB Jaylen Watson, S Deon Bush, S Zayne Anderson, CB L’Jarius Sneed and S Juan Thornhill had broken strides. Rookie CB Trent McDuffie had two interceptions. THE Mike Danna and LB Nick Bolton almost had choices.

It seems like Saturday they are the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarterback.
Head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes and the starters will get the “first half” but it could be shorter than what I expect. Reid’s preseason trends tell me the first teams get a series in the second quarter before checking out.

And the 1st named his camp stars.
Mahomes said the first assignment when he returns to Kansas City is to get a haircut. He is most looking forward to seeing his 1-year-old daughter. Reid said he is ready to sleep in his own bed and has a normal schedule. Ball is life for Big Red.
